The JGI Global Forest Watch App mobile technology that We launched in Uganda this month combines satellite technology from NASA with the cloud computing power of Google and algorithms developed by GFW partners to rapidly analyzes terabytes of data and provide actionable information to users in real-time. Following the launch of the Forest Watch App in Uganda, Dr. Pintea Lillian the Vice President Conservation Science for the Jane Goodall Institute, Rachael Petersen the Research Analyst for World Resource Institute together with JGI Uganda team trained forest monitors and UWA rangers in Hoima and Fort portal districts on how to use this new App. Training was conducted on how the enforcement officers can access and download forest loss alerts, then navigate to recent forest loss and collect evidence including pictures, GPS coordinates and comments on what is happening on the ground using the Forest Watcher App.illegalities in Ugandan forests”.
